The trophic ecology of Sargasso Sea fishes
Horák, Mikuláš ; Horká, Petra (advisor) ; Frouzová, Jaroslava (referee)
This work aims to create a comprehensive overview of current knowledge about trophic relationships within and among fish communities in the ecosystems of the Sargasso Sea and tries to deepen our understanding of the intricate trophic dynamics in these waters and contribute to the broader field of marine ecology. The Sargasso Sea is a unique marine environment characterized by its lack of continental boundaries, with its relative limits defined by major ocean currents. The main objective of this thesis is to consolidate the current research on feeding ecology of fish in the oligotrophic sea waters, with a focus on describing the food webs and species composition of pelagic organisms, along with their interrelationships. To comprehend and illuminate these interactions, various pre-existing data obtained through stable isotope analysis (15 N and 13 C) are employed to determine food web structure and trophic positions. Fluctuations in these values within food webs may provide insights into both natural and anthropogenic influences. Key words: The Sargasso sea, feeding ecology, trophic interactions, food web, stable isotopes
Evaluation of the environmental quality of the Novomlýnský rybník reservoir (cadastral zone Nová Bystřice)
NOVOTNÁ, Barbora
Seasonal variations of zooplankton, zoobenthos, fish assemblage and hydro-chemical and limnological indicators were studied in the Novomlýnský rybník reservoir (PP Homolka Vojířov) near Nová Bystřice in 2014. The results were used for the evaluation of factors influencing the quality of the environment of a small water reservoir. The measurements and samples were taken monthly from April to October (with the exception for June) in the pelagial at the point of the pond maximum depth. The sampling of fish to determine the species present took place once, in April of 2014. At the same time, two measurements and sample taking took place at the reservoir inflow and outflow. The results of this survey could be useful during planning and water management of the reservoir with the aim to restore the environment and increase the range of present large filtering zooplankton, particularly those from the Cladocera family, which are scarce in the reservoir.
Proposal and evaluation of educational ecological games with elements of inquiry-based learning
VONDRÁČKOVÁ, Petra
The Bachelor Thesis Proposal and evaluation of educational ecological games with elements of inquiry-based learning is focused on educational games with ecological themes and with application of inquiry-based learning. General information about the educational issues is processed through a literature review. Selected topics of biological ecology were summed and then educational games were developed of these topics Participants will gain knowledge of these games on the operation of some general ecological patterns related to trophic cascades, food webs and the principle of Competitive Exclusion. Three games created are listed in the results
